18. Under the Sea

For the longest time, I’ve been wanting to make little fish and an ocean themed piece out of Life Savers. Obviously, I had to photoshop the colors of the blue Life Savers, because it is extremely hard to find stores that sell blue Life Savers, and I had fun creating the little Life Saver fish. I wish I could take credit for the actual ocean image (because I love making crafty things like that), but sadly I found it on the internet and thought it would be the perfect backdrop for my idea.

Originally, I had planned on trying to create a seal’s face with all those white Life Savers, but my roommate walked by and couldn’t make out what I was trying to make. So I have to give her credit for the idea of making a big cloud out of Life Savers.

A few weekends ago, my brother came down from New York to visit me and he started brainstorming with me on what I could do for another Life Savers post, and he came up with the Michelin Man (the mascot for Michelin tires). So I thought I would create my own “Michelin/ Life Saver” Man, in a combination advertisement for both Michelin and Life Savers.

Again, I love October and the Halloween season, so I thought I’d get ahead of myself and start making some Halloween art. This was very simple to make, yet extremely time consuming. I spelled out “Boo” with different sized Life Savers and a dead flower petal (because I definitely do not have a green thumb), and then added some different effects in Illustrator and Photoshop for the final image.

October is one of my favorite times of year and I really wanted to do something with a pumpkin and Life Savers. Yesterday at Wal-Mart, I found these really big Life Savers in the Halloween candy section and thought they would be the perfect opportunity for me to do something with a pumpkin/ autumn theme.
