13. The Flintstones

It is a little bit hard to tell, but the car in the drive way is made out of Life Savers, Play-Doh, and paper and then photoshopped in front of the Flintstone’s house.  This meets the criteria of Nostalgia, in the manner that The Flintstones was one of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons as a child. This scene is to depict one of my favorite childhood shows as something I long to watch, but  cannot, because I don’t have Boomerang and Cartoon Network is no longer airing it.

12. A Lion’s Desire

My second scene of Nostalgia is a scene of a lion who finished all of his Life Savers and is now wanting more. He is yearning for the happiness of a few minutes ago when there were still delicious suckers in his bag.

Nostalgia was defined in class as “a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time.” So, as my first Nostalgia piece I choose to write a letter directed to the Wrigley Company as someone who is on a strict diet and craving Life Savers.  This person obviously doesn’t know how to diet properly, yet is yearning for their favorite candy which he is no longer allowed to have.

Instead of photographing something with Life Savers that would represent a Contrast, I thought it would be more creative to have at least one word-play contrast.

A very simple Contrast that I thought of expressing was Horizontal vs. Vertical, and I thought what better way than to express it in a city scape.

08. Seasons Changing

While thinking about different Contrasts, I thought something really interesting to do would be to contrast all four seasons with Life Savers and then expressing them all in one tree.

07. Color Wheel

As my second Contrast piece, I was trying to think of random opposites, which led me to think about objects that are black and white. From there, I decided to take a step back and look at the bigger picture of what the opposite of black and white is, which is colors—hence why I decided to do the color wheel with primary and secondary colors contrasting each other.
